    Vosges Mountain Route recommendations please

Hi All, in June I am doing a Alpine Passes Tour, taking in the famous Grossglockner and Stelvio, plus 24 others in Austria, Italy and Switzerland.

On the way back I would like to go through the Vosges Mountains, but unsure which is the best route through the Vosges that will give me the best twisties.

Any suggestion or help on this would be greatly appropriated. :028:

    Thanks

Three years ago we did a tour to the Italian Dolomites and passed through the Vosges. I don't have a route but we stayed overnight at Labaroche in the Vosges before heading into Germany via Colmar. Check out Labaroche on Google maps and just south west of it you'll see a 'super squiggly' section of roads that is as good as it looks  :018:. When we were in Austria we rode the Timmelsjoch pass in both directions which was absolutely awesome (and fast in places) so I'd recommend that too :018:.

Hi Kimbo8, Last time we did them we came up from Italy, through Switzerland and overnighted, in France, just north of Basel.  We got up early next day, skipped breakfast at the hotel (€12.00 each  :023:) and headed for Cernay.  I forget the exact road numbers but Googly-maps will have it.  Rode up to Le Grand Ballon, stopping there for breakfast (recommended) at the cafe "La Vue des Alpes". Fabulous views.  We then headed up to Sainte Marie-aux-Mines and on into Northeast France en-route to the tunnel.  It was a grand day, as they say, lots of twisty stuff.
Definitely recommend going early as it does get very busy later in the day, tour buses etc, especially at the weekend.  Watch out for the cobbles used on some of the bends if it is wet   :005:   Also be aware of groups of Kamikaze German and Swiss GS/KTM riders who may try and overtake on blind bends, on both sides at once   :172:
Hope you have a great time.

    Cheers,
    Paul

Cheers Scott and Paul, used your recommendations and it looks like its part of the Route des Cretes, looks amazing now on my list for my journey home.

Cheers for the heads up about the cobble corners.  :012:

Will let you all know how i get on.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the recommendations, and in total I did 42 Mountain roads and passes.

What can I say, amazing trip.  The best roads on trip were D500 Black Forest fast with sweeping bend, Grossglockner has it all but busy, Route Des Cretes, like the D500, Passo Tonale good mix of bends and quite  :152:

The trip did not pass without incident, as i was doing a 3 point turn on the Stelvio for a photo op I dropped the bike and broke my gear lever peg  :006: luckily found a friendly Italian mechanic who fixed a temporary peg from his scrap yard to get me home.

I am working on Youtube videos, the first can be seen here, more will follow.

    Passes Rode in order:
D500 Black Forest, Giacht Pass, Hahntennjoch, Fernpass, Holzitensattel, Kuhtal Saddle, Gerlos Pass, Krimml Waterfall, Grossglockner, Edelweissspitle, Gailberg Saddle, Plocken Pass, Sella di Razzo, Staulanza Passo, Cibiana Passo, Giau Passo, Falzarego Passo, Pordo Passo, Campologo Passo, Gardena Passo, Sella Passo, Karerpass, Nigerpass, Mendel Passo, Tonale Passo, Gavia Passo, Stelvio Passo, Umrialpass, Fuorn Pass, Fluela Pass, Wolfgang Pass, Kerenzerberg Pass, Route des Cretes, Col de Herrenfluh, Col Amic, Col du Grand Ballon, Hundsruecken, Col de Herrenberg, Col du Bonhomme, Col des Bagenelles. there were 2 I cannot remember the name of.
