Yes, of course. Thanks.  It’s the week not the month.  :087:

Any update on your Maxxis ST’s?

Yet another rear tyre in need of replacement on my wife’s bike. She’s had a front and rear due to wear, then another rear due to a deep cut across the whole width after only 2000 miles, and now a puncture after 2500 miles. :110:

Not going to repair it as we’re off to Spain in May, so want my nearest and dearest to be safe, and will put on new front and rear.  :028:

So far, I think the Pirelli Stradas that I replaced the Maxxis Supermaxx with are better. They seem to have more feel but they are new so a lot of that is probably due to the newness versus the oldness of the 7,000 mile Maxxis that I replaced, if that makes sense  :087:.

But if wouldn't hesitate to buy Maxxis again. They were good tyres. Good grip and longevity at nearly 7,000 miles  :028:.

Thanks for the reply. Since we’re snowed in I don’t think I’ll be in a rush to go out to replace them.  :001:

Why don't tyres have more depth of tread when new ?

Can’t remember the last time I changed a tyre due to it tread depth.

Usually the back one has squared off, or in the case of the PR4’s we had, both front and back tyres wore unevenly and were horrible to ride on.

My wife told me she doesn’t want Bridgestone 023’s on her bike.

She said, not that they’re bad, just not as good as Avon’s she’s had in the past.

So it’s Avon Storm 3D X-M’s (which I have on my bike) costing £213 ride in, ride out. Cheaper than what I paid for mine last year.  :028:

' Can’t remember the last time I changed a tyre due to it tread depth.

Usually the back one has squared off,' - I find when the tyre has squared off the tread has worn down as well.

Tyres I’ve had square off well before they get to the thread indicators.

If I was commuting, like in my workdays, I’d run them down to the indicators. However, as soon as shoulders (best way to describe it I suppose) start appearing, cornering becomes lesss smooth and the bike keeps trying to sit upright.

I suppose I change my tyres earlier than I used to.  :028:
