Only just found this out but insurance write off categories C and D are a thing of the past.

From 1 October 2017 they have been replaced by categories S and N, the new categories focus more on the condition of the car, than on the cost of repairing it.

Both Category S and N cars/bikes can be repaired and put back on the road.

A category 'S' vehicle is one written off by the insurer as an uneconomical to repair where damage could be to any part of the vehicle's structural frame, including the chassis - so not so good really.  Category 'N' vehicles, also being written off by the insurer as an uneconomical to repair, but the the big difference being that it suffered non-structural damage to frame/chassis etc - a much clearer statement of condition although I would still check out the detail.
