Do they fold?

As in without loosening the single mounting bolt, for filtering parking etc?

They fold in the same way the OEM set do, so with an Allen key, which I've since decided needs to be part of my on bike toolkit on the off chance they are knocked while i'm out or the bolt comes loose.

I thought I'd change the look a bit as well while I was at it, so got some that were a more angular shape. I think whichever you go for though its a good mod for £20.

Hi Spin.I always grease & then tighten that single Allen screw only sufficient enough to avoid movement by wind pressure but to allow that it can yield to being mechanically contacted by whatever.Ed. :125:

Interesting, but according to the OP by twotractors each CB1300 mirror sticks 57 mm (2¼") more than the standard CBF1000 mirror. My question is how do you get on filtering with that extra 114 mm (4½")? My filtering riding into and around London (M11, A12, A406 etc) is bad enough with the narrow stock mirrors, especially filtering around the A406 in peak hours. I'm thinking the extra width would impede progress.

edit: Just been out to the stable to check mine and half the stock CBF1000 mirror head protrudes beyond the width of the handlebar, with the CB1300 mirrors the entire head would protrude. Isn't that just too wide for the stock, sans pannier, CBF1000? Or is the idea similar to the whisker test for pannier set ups, if the whiskers mirrors fit through so will the body panniers?

Thanks for that, I'll see if i can find a happy medium of tightness in case they are knocked.

My mirror stems measure 142 vs 192mm, assuming the mirrors are angled at a 45° angle it means the bike becomes a total of 71mm wider 2x50Cos(45). They are definitely the widest part of the bike now, I've only had them on a week or so, so can't really compare, and the traffic isn't back to normal here anyway, but the limited filtering I have done has been fine although you can feel the bike is a bit wider at the front. If you're regularly commuting through heavy or traffic I think this mod will slow you down so agree its probably not something you'd find useful, although its not prevented me filtering thus far, as with anything its a trade off which depends on the type of roads or riding you tend to do.
I'd be interested to know if they are still the widest part of the bike if you have panniers on at which point they'd become a useful whisker test.

Thanks for responses, may stick to my current set up as in terms of folding I meant like the ones on the ZR7S do (pivoted so can just be flicked towards the handlebar and then out.. I miss them).

As an alternative I currently run a pair of Oxford mirrors with a oxford thread adapter between the OEM mount and the mirror (different thread sizes).

Mirror can be pushed upwards which makes all the difference for tight assess for me, but the arm itself doesn't move without being loosened.

Probably not as good as O.E.M but I literally can't use the O.E.M ones due to width.

May help someone re filtering etc.

In the picture below their folded inwards, the mirror itself is on a ball pivot.

I didn't change the mirrors on mine, just added extenders, thus making the bike massively 'wider'. What difference did it made to my filtering? Absolutely nothing. Difference to progress? Absolutely nothing.


As for this 'whisker test', I tend to use my eyes & brain to calculate if the bike will fit through a gap and if it's safe, or not.

As they say, "just because it fits doesn’t mean you should put it there".   :028:
