Replacing the top box lock to fit the same key

    Hi All

I have just picked up my stolen biffer from the police appointed compound. I would appear to have been 'lucky' in that the bike is relatively unscathed and rideable. The apparent damage being £160 for the privilege of getting the bike back, broken steering lock (found a metal lug where the bike used to be) destroyed back rest on the top box and the top box lock has been opened using an irish key a.k.a. screwdriver. Numerous cosmetic enhancements. Fortunately HISS appears to have defeated their efforts to start the bike. I am a bit concerned there are hidden problems yet to rear their head, but time will tell.
My Question is; can I get the topbox lock barrel replaced to use my existing key? And if so what is the likely cost...
Name of a good therapist would also be handy, it's hard work being angry with little chance of catching up with the thieving a~~holes who nicked it in the first place.

Does your topbox use the same key as the ignition?

Hi Alan, yes, it's a Honda top box. So ignition key opens the top box and panniers. I'm sure the panniers would have received the same treatment, but fortunately I had taken them off and put in my shed. The only thing taken from inside the topbox was my armoured waterproof trousers which were ten years old and seen better days.

That's a shame. If it was a Givi style key it would have been much easier.

You may be able to get another lock barrel from your local honda dealer and then go to a locksmith to get it changed to your key. I've done that a couple of times and it's worked for me.

Alternatively go onto ebay and see if you can get an old topbox or pannier with that style of lock and get the lock changed (throw away the pannier afterwards).
