Engine oil capacity
« on: 25 February, 2016, 07:46:41 AM »
As Bifferman has suggested I will use glass window check to fill my bike from now but curious why this figures are so different:

2006 owner handbook downloaded from this site:
At draining 2.9 liter –
At filter change 3.2 liter –

2008 owner handbook that came with my bike:
At draining 2.7 liter –
At filter change 3.0 liter –

2006-2008 service manual:
After draining 2.7 liter (2.9 US qt, 2.4 lmp qt) –
After oil filter change 3.5 liter (3.7 US qt, 3.1 lmp qt) –
After disassembly 3.6 liter (3.8 US qt, 3.2 lmp qt) –

2011 service manual:
At draining 2.7 liter (2.9 US qt, 2.4 Imp qt) –
At filter change 3.0 liter (3.2 US qt, 2.6 Imp qt) –
At disassembly 3.6 liter (3.8 US qt, 3.2 Imp qt) –

look at the "At filter change" part

Does it really matter how much the book states, if you buy 4 litres and fill it correctly within the site glass that is all that matters.

If theres a gap i can get through it !!!

Some people pay for an IAM... I am mad.....

 Hi
I have just done my first oil and filter change and thought that 3.5L as per the manual was too much, so I put 3L in and seems to be spot on.
Thought that an extra half a L was wrong, going by the capacity of the filter and what came out when the filter was removed.
