Less than once in a blue moon really, unless someone has fallen off :015:.   I don't actually remember anyone at all reporting a broken headlight on here never mind on resulting from a flying stone chipping or similar.  So did a quick search for 'broken headlight' and it transpires that I asked exactly the same question way back on 28th November 2012:-

https://www.cbf1000.com/index.php/topic,14183.msg173925.html#msg173925 - Alan sh had a scratch on one of his lights and BM had Powerbronze pimp his bike incl a free headlight protector :156:.

Bomber asked in 2006 and Dekker had a chip also 9 years ago:  https://www.cbf1000.com/index.php/topic,817.msg6518.html#msg6518

That's it unless someone finds other threads.

The lens is made of polycarbonate and is pretty strong stuff so not susceptible to breakages I guess.

Well based on that I think I will save my money.

Hang on ... there was a Red Moon last week.
I had better check when the next Blue Moon is occuring and maybe cover my     bets !!

Pretty secure. It relies on 4 x 1cm square pads located on the actual headlight lens at the corners

Can someone just pull them off ?
Yes, or as in my case, a severe jolt will possibly dislodge one (which is how I lost one)

Is the idea to take on and off to wash it or left on all the time ?
The fixing is 3M Dual Lock which is substantially stronger than Velcro, but is designed to be separated less often; typically 25 times, so maybe not the best idea to remove them for every bike wash.

Has there been many instances of headlight lamp breakages or once in a blue moon ?
Not that I know of

I've had headlight protectors on all my bikes since the scratch incident. Headlights may not break, but they can scratch easily.

I've had one fall cover off (and I then ran over it) but that's it.

Heartily recommend them (the clear ones).

Red MK II with full luggage, MRA screen, hugger, crash bungs, heated grips and Autocom.
CB1300SA with a few bits.

Almost certainly not on this forum (unless someone is keeping very quiet).  There are some high mileage riders though such as Vlassis and andyinvienna to name just two.  I am sure there are more but the names just don't come to mind.

I have a bright yellow neon cover on the dip beam so its an unusual lop sided front on a black faired bike but it gets noticed
