    SW Motech Engine Bars Mk1 v Mk2

    Hi all,

I really like the SW Motech Crash Bars for the Mk 2 CBF1000, because of the double bar at the top which lends itself to having things attached to them.

Rather than the older Motech crash bars for the Mk1

It looks like the new bars fit on the old bike but not the other way around.

    Has anyone tried this?

If you laid the bike over, would the bars on the Mk.II offer any protection to the lower engine covers or do they start too far up?

    Hi Mike,

That's a good question as I look at them they appear to stick out further than the others, although they are higher up. I'll try to find a picture of them in profile to check.

    Many thanks, FM

SW Motech are a good company that produce quality produce, I therefore couldn't see the crash bars not protecting the engine casing and more of the fairing.

But if I had those on I see a nice little foot rest on there so I could just stretch my legs out now and again. black on a black bike with the same colour engine looks fine almost blends in but on a white or red bike not so sure.

Personal thing really, I was very interested in getting some form of crash bar fitted.
That was until read that in many cases a tumble with crash bars results in a broken engine casing where the bars mount. So I haven't bothered.
I wonder what an assessor would make of it in the event of a claim for either a new engine or a complete rebuild with new cases.

I know it's not the same bike but it kind of has the same engine.

I'm talking about the CB1000R. I saw a new one a few days ago at the traffic lights and I noticed that where the engine bolts go through the frame that the spacers were made of nylon/hard plastic, definitely not metal.
He didn't have any bars fitted to it . So I wonder if Honda have replaced the metal spacers.
