HISS RECEIVER PROBLEM

Has anybody faced a problem with this part? It seems that there is a malfunction with its wiring and sometimes it doesn't receive the signal from the coded key. It definitely needs replacement. Unfortunately according to my mechanic it costs 120 Euro

Never known it to happen and I've been using HISS machines since 1999.

Perhaps it's the key - have you tried the spare?

It's not the key. The problem was caused by friction when the handlebar is turned and its wiring (four thin wires with a thin plastic shield) touches a metal part under it. I saw the new part and its shield is much stronger, obviously big H realized its weakness and improved it. Too late for me though.... I think it's a damage which I could have avoided by securing the wiring better, if I knew the consequences. 90.000 Km, a lot of them in town, mean much thermal energy (caused by friction) which destroyed part of the plastic shield and one (or more) of the thin wires. A remedy could be to cut all the wires near the reader and replace them but there would be too many connections which could probably affect the coded signal. A risk that it's not wise to take.
I''ll try to contact a British Honda dealer and see if their price is more reasonable (which I doubt).

I can't see replacing the damaged part of the wiring as a problem, so long as the connections are good, soldering being the best method so far as I am concerned. Am I missing something?

I've just had this fault on my 2007 CBF1000A7 with 20,000 miles on the clock. The bike would cut out at low revs when the handle bars were turned. I took it to my Honda dealer who had not come across the fault before. They fitted a new HISS ariel unit which is around the ignition barrel and it's now fine. The cost including 2 hours labour ( the fault was difficult to trace ) was £314. This fault is potentially very dangerous as the bike could fall over when the engine cut out on low speed corners.

I can't understand that, can anybody explain?  It sounds far more likely to be a frayed electrical cable - but then I always look for the cheapest solution first!

Could be a frayed cable boss. I assume the HISS receiver (around the ignition barrel) attaches (via the wiring loom) to the ECU which controls whether or not the bike is on. If that cable is iffy, then the problem would manifest as described.

Agreed, well said technoman (Fred), this is something we could all do with knowing a few more specifics on. 
 
When I fitted a new nosecone stay I spent absolutely ages making sure I followed the exact wiring routes as specified in the diagramatics in the service manual but it was one mother of a job to follow through accurately.  I think I am pretty OK but it would be nice to see some pics of the offending area and a fuller description.  Go for it F & B.
