When renewing steering head bearings how much bodywork needs to come off?

Do I need to remove whole front..ie fairings clocks lights etc etc...or can I get access just taking out forks?
Im not sure I could get at lower bearing if I dont clear complete front end ?

STEERING STEM
REMOVAL
Remove the following:
– Front center cowl (page 3-7)
– Front fender (page 3-9)
– Handlebar (page 14-6)
– Front wheel (page 14-13)
Release the immobilizer receiver wire from the harness
clamp and disconnect the receiver 4P connector.....

I don't know the Dimensions and I've never really bothered.

All I know is they work.

I know I wouldn't pay over £60  for Honda's Head bearings.

If you think your bike handles OK with the OEM ones you are wrong.

I have fitted 5 sets of Honda Ones and they all fail quick,If you use the bike and do mileage.
Most people don't check their headset.
 
The Honda ones are also hard to adjust down as you can over tighten them without really knowing then they wear quicker.

Fitting tapered ones are 100% better ,easy to fit and adjust correctly and out last Honda parts.

All I can tell you is ALL BALLS part number =  22-1020

If you have never fitted a set of head bearings it can be a bit daunting as you need to remove the lower pressed bearing cup from the bottom of the steering stem and the easiest way is to grind a split in it and split it with a cold chisel.

Removing the cups and fitting the bearings are not hard if you have the tools.

I use a modified long wide screwdiver to remove the cups but these work....

Refitting is easy to and there are many youtube's showing you how to adjust ect.

But I have one of these its quicker and easy to use.

You can replace both headstock bearings without taking any fairings off. Knock the bottom race out using a 300mm long M12 studding with a washer clamped between two nuts at one end. Taking the centre cowl makes it easier but it's not absolutely necessary.
